A few marble slabs adorn the foyer walls leading into the main refectory here at the Casa Santa Maria. Today, a new line was carved into the stone underneath the name of Timothy M. Dolan.I have never before witnessed live marble carving. The artist first wiped the chosen space with some sort of liquid and then used a blowtorch to heat the same spot. Then out came the chisel. Notice that enough space was left so that the line "Cardinal" can be added eventually.
Alas, foresight did not allow for much space to be left under Archbishop O'Brien's name, who is now of the Archdiocese of Baltimore.
